We all want to maximize our paycheck when going into the interview process, however there are better approaches than others to go about it:

1) Understand the employer's budget and where there is flexibility: employers normally have more leeway when it comes to a sign-on bonus or bumping up a base salary versus increasing uniform items, like vacation.

 

2) If you want the job, don't jeopardize the offer by playing coy - let your interviewer know that you want the job. Employers who know you want the job and are simply trying to make the numbers work are more willing to try and fight to get you more money.
